Wood vises
I picked up two broken quick release vises for free. Both the quick release nuts where broke. I thought I might use the metal rods for something, but the more I looked at them I wondered if I could make them working vises again. I got hold of 2 Acme thread nuts (1' x 5tpi). I had a friend tack weld a 1/8" bar stock to each on and then I mounted them in the vise. I had to shim a little to get the nut at the right height, but they work very smoothly now.
Free is always good. The nuts where $5.00 each.
