Walnut Plaque

(back to projects)

A women came up to me at work on a Wednesday and pleaded with me to make this walnut plaque for her, and she needed it done by Saturday! Wednesday night I prepped the stock and did 2, 4 board glue ups. Thursday morning before work I glued  the 2 sets together. Thursday night I scraped, sanded, sanded, and sanded, then cut it square and formed the top and routed the edge. There is a 1/8" saw kerf about 4" down from the top to separate the top from the body. The piece is 35" wide x 37" tall. It will be filled with 180 brass name plates from her sorority. Friday I  sprayed a little walnut toner on it to even the color out and then spray on satin lacquer. I have about 5 hours in it total.
