Sophie's Toddler Bed

(back to projects)

Leslie and I decided to move Sophie to a toddler bed for a year or so then to a full size bed. The toddler bed uses the mattress from the crib and is very low to the ground. We searched all the kids store websites looking for a design we liked. There were some very nice very expensive ones we saw , so I did the only thing a woodworker would do, I said I can make that. Below is what I have come up with. The second picture is of the one in the store we saw. The wood I used is called wormy maple and is a soft maple. It is much less expensive then clear soft maple and is a wood I like to use as is, but it would not have matched Sophie's room. I filled the worm holes and sprayed it with white lacquer and painted the bead board panels to match her room. We are very pleased with how it came out.

Here is the new owner in her bed!
