Small Box

(back to projects)

My sister was married in October 2004 and she has asked me to help her build about 65 small boxes that she can give to the guests as a way of saying thank you for coming to our special day. She wants to help build them also. I will try to explain the process. Beth and I sat down and talked about box sizes and designs. I sketched out a few ideas. I then built a poster board mock-up full size. The first model was to big for her (I also built one out of wood I had in the shop) so I shrunk it down and built the second poster board model. She liked the size and design. We now had to decide on what woods to use. She wanted it of a dark wood. I made another wooden prototype out of walnut for the body with maple splines and a purpleheart top. She did not like those woods (bummer). I had her come to the store where we picked out the woods. She decided on a Cherry body with walnut splines and a zebrawood top. I did not build a prototype of this one. The pictures here only show about 40 boxes being made. We did this at two different once she realizes that 40 was not enough.

Only 41 in the picture above, because the others where shipped or given out later.
