Cutting Boards
12/21/07
So nothing like waiting until the last minutes. These cutting
boards are Christmas gifts!
I got the idea from a woodworking friend who has made several of these. The
boards are maple & cherry
with a thin walnut strip.
First is the glue up of the different woods.
Then tape up a pair (cherry & maple), draw a nice gentle curve and cut them out on the band saw. Cut very thin strips of the dividers (walnut 1/16" thick). Trade out a piece of each board so one board is cherry, maple, cherry and the other one is maple, cherry, maple. Glue them back together with the thin walnut strip and let dry overnight.
Here is what it looks like after the first trade of boards and run through the planner.
Turn the boards 90 degrees and do it again. Here it is gluing
up for the third time now.
You can never have to many clamps.
A little closer picture of how they should look.
The 2 boards below are getting closer to being done. That is epoxy drying, to fill a few voids. There is a picture of each style, one with cherry in thr middle and the other with maple in the middle.
