Tank Stand

(Back to projects)

The 55 gallon tank when all full will weigh about 700 pounds.
I felt a inner frame of 2 x 4's would give me the compression load I needed.
I then built a face frame around it.
I laminated the top and shelf, and the doors are half-lap joints that are pegged on the back side.
Since this is not fine furniture I used the Kreg pocket hole jig, I loved it.
I had the cherry plywood for several years, so it had already darkened some.
The cherry frame is wood given to me. I had the rough framing materials, so this stand cost me next to nothing to build.
The last picture shows the stand with 3 coats of a wipe-on oil/urethane finish.
