About Me

(click to go back)

Name: Tom

Age: 48 (05/62)

Born: Mt. Vernon, NY.

Live:  North Carolina (moved here when I was 8)

Occupation:  Southeast Woodworking Specialist for Freud America

School: Machinist degree, Wake Tech Community College 1992. I feel that my machinist schooling lends itself, very well, to my woodworking.

Hobbies: Woodworking (of course) cooking, target shooting (pistol and rifle), traveling when we can.

Woodworking Awards, Recognition, & Related Items:

    1) Woodsmith magazine, Featured woodworker 10/03 - Jewelry Box

    2) NC State Fair - 10/03 Blue ribbon small furniture division (same jewelry box)

    3) Attended American Sycamore Retreat - Learned hand-cut dovetails with master cabinet maker Frank Klausz (see picture below)

The very first wood project I built was a wooden front bumper for my 1971 Volkswagen super beetle when I was seventeen. After that I got a job installing car stereo systems. This included building speaker boxes. These boxes were made of 1/2" particle board glued and screwed on all sides, edges rounded over with a router and then carpet glued on. My tools for this were a Craftsman circular saw, router, belt sander and jigsaw. My tools now have names like Freud, Delta, Porter Cable, DeWalt, Makita, Record, Lie-Nielson and Milwaukee,  My woodworking skills have grown since then. I am happy to say that I do not always look at a power tool as the answer to woodworking joinery.   I really enjoy when ever I get the chance to create something with my hands. I love the look on someone's face when ever I present them with something I have made, whether it is a gift or a commission piece.
